Wood Repair Products
0000 Wire wool
Very fine grade wire wool for cleaning or preparing bare substrates.

Where to buy
2 Component Filler
An extremely hard filler for larger repairs or for where corners or edges have been broken. This product has excellent adhesion qualities, which combined with its’ hardness makes it particularly helpful for areas of severe use such as worktops or flooring at an entrance. It is available in white, transparent or wood colour and can be tinted with the high opacity Colourfix touch-up paints to give a good base to be working from.

Where to buy
Brass Brush
Brush with stiffer inner to aid cleaning away of excess waxes and will put a little bit of texture back into Hardwax when it is considered useful. (Woodgrain window profiles a good example)

Where to buy
Cabinet scraper
Traditional tool used extensively by French polishers, this tool is used to remove either very small slithers of Hardwax or, bent inwardly, large amounts of Hardwax and is a very useful aid in the creation of the grain marking.

Where to buy
Cellulose thinners
Can be used to thin out the paints in the Paintbox and Colourfix touch-ups. Also useful as a cleaner for the special applicator if wax has been left to harden on, brushes and sometimes surfaces. (Care not to soften too much)

Where to buy
Clear Sealer
A cellulose based sealer mainly used on bare substrate where the previous finish has been removed completely. It provides an ideal base for the finishing lacquer. Not to be confused with the repair lacquer, which is used to seal in your repairs. For interior use.

Where to buy
Colourfix touch-up
A range of touch-up paints, highly opaque which can be used in the same way as the paints in the Retouch paint box, but also may be added to the two-pack filler to create a useful base colour when working on bigger areas of repair. Available in single colours or as a set of wood colours. Can be colour matched at an additional cost.

Where to buy
Dulling powder
Used to bring down a sheen level that is too high or remove very fine scratches in lacquer. Very helpful if the edge of the repair lacquer is visible in light reflection.

Where to buy
Dye PenS
Contain wood colour dyes and have a hard chisel tip to enable the user to create very small spots, thin lines or thick lines by altering the angle of the tip. Mainly used on solid timber or any substrate that will absorb the dye (i.e. Not laminates or PVCu) A very useful product where some degree of translucency is required to produce a depth of colour. Available as a single pen or a box of 12 mixed wood colours. Can be colour matched at an additional cost. See also Flexi Pens.

Where to buy
Felt Pads
A felt block with an abrasive lining attached to give control whilst removing excess wax or paint.

Where to buy
Fineline Pens
These are pens containing highly opaque lacquers used mainly in the window industry for colouring mitre joints during manufacture. On site they can be more useful than lacquer pens because the tip is finer so it is possible to recreate grain marks on the woodgrain foils. Colours available specifically for the window industry are 402 Base Mahogany; 1342 Mahogany Grain; 1185 Oak/Cherry; Rosewood and of course white.

On the woodfinishing side, because of their narrower tip, they can actually be used in pairs to re-create grain patterns on any substrate and, because of the high opacity of the lacquer, can be used to cover over darker marks.

Where to buy
Finishing lacquer
A high solids cellulose based lacquer used to provide a finish over the sealer where the previous coating has been removed. Available in gloss, satin, matt or dead matt. For interior use. See also Acrylic lacquer clear.

Where to buy
Flexi Pens
Contain wood colour dyes in a pen with a flexible tip to enable the user to ‘paint’ dye onto substrates that will absorb the colour such as solid wood or veneered m.d.f. Can be used to colour in very fine scratches that do not need a filler but have made white marks on the surface of a lacquer. Available as a single pen or a box of 12 mixed wood colours. Can be colour matched at an additional cost. See also Dye Pens

Where to buy
Furniture Reviver/Cleaner
A mild solvent cleaner used to remove surface discolouration due to the normal effects of daily handling. Particularly useful for cleaning off the marks left by years of fingerprints on handles and work surfaces. See also liquid sandpaper.

Where to buy
Gas Heating Iron
Essential tool for melting the Hardwax forming the basis of most repairs. It is imperative to have a tool which will melt Hardwax without over-heating it as this will cause the colour to change (Burning) and will also affect the viscosity of the melted wax (Will become too runny to keep enough wax on the blade to fill the hole). The heating Iron runs on normal butane gas (not supplied on delivery due to regulations regarding postage). Tips can be bought separately if they become blocked with wax or other workshop debris. To prevent this please do not stand the iron on its end and/or wipe excess wax off regularly before it has time to run in and block the air passageway.

Where to buy
Hardwax
The beginning of most repairs, Hardwaxes are melted using a special heating tool to create a colour close enough to that of the substrate that will be a sound base from which to work with the other products to complete a repair. Hardwax can be used for quite large holes or scratches due to it’s durability but should normally be used in conjunction with Softwax on woodgrain finishes. There are 69 colours in this range with regular additions. Colour matching can be done at an additional cost.
